Review: Tasnim Collections Maryam Abaya
I recently ordered two Tasnim Collection abayas after hearing about the brand's high quality and tons of gorgeous shades. I opted for the Maryam abaya, a batwing cut. The whiteish-grey is in the medium material and the mauve is in the light material. I also ordered two small diamond khimars but have opted to do a separate review of them.
I am IN LOVE. The material for the abayas is buttery soft, nicely matte and fully opaque. The heavier of the two is still light enough to wear in our North Carolina, 80-degree weather today. The mauve is so light and silky it feels like a cloud, and the color is offbeat enough to please but subtle enough to feel dignified and adult at the same time. Neither material makes noise when I walk, though the mauve does feel a bit smoother to the touch.
Overall construction seems to be excellent. I am not a seamstress but my grandmother did a fair amount of sewing, and I will say the seams all appear to be solidly done. My sole gripe at this point is that there are no pockets, and the sleeves are a bit hard to raise to make wudhu. (In fairness, I think this probably would be easier if I were thinner.)
The sizing is by height rather than by size as in most Western clothing. I am a standard US size 22/24 (closer to the 24 end of things) and had no trouble wearing the abaya comfortably. The sleeves are cut slim to the forearm and long enough to cover my hands almost to the knuckle. The hem covers the laces of my sneakers when I stand.
All in all, I am very impressed and plan to place an order with this same company again.
Outfit: Whiteish-grey Tasnim Maryam abaya, Lane Bryant scarf (very old) Calvin Klein purse, Bradlee's old stock red sunglasses, Sketchers memory foam flats.
