What I wore: Eid 2017
Bismillah
Egyptian black crepe kimono style abaya with cream lace accents, Kate Spade purse, black square georgette scarf from Al-Mujalbaba, Toms shoes.
This blog is my attempt to parse the often politicized debate surrounding hijab, and my response to the paradox of being both Muslim and American. Muslim women are both outside mainstream fashion and subject to its whims; getting dressed every morning as a hijabi means wearing the assumptions, fears and desires of two cultures for everyone to see.
I am a Muslim. I am an American. I wear abayaat because I am determined to control my own narrative, and explore how those identities impact my chosen dress.
